The PCC is made up for two Committees: Management and Pastoral.
- The Management Committee is responsible for finance, maintenance of the fabric of the building and health and safety.
- The Pastoral Committee deals with worship, the structure and content of the services and the vision of the church
After 20 years our Vicar David and family have moved on and we have just begun the process of appointing a new parish priest.
Valerie Wilson – Treasurer

Back doing the Treasurer role at the moment. Also involved in bookings and flower arranging.
Andrew Lear – Deanery Synod Representative and Health and Safety.
I live in Windmill Hill and have been regularly coming to St Michaels with my partner Sheena and two girls Georgia and Darcey for several years now. St Michaels is a vibrant church which is friendly and community orientated.
I am a Solicitor by profession and have been working in the legal and insurance sectors as a legal advisor and manager for over 20 years.
In my spare time I enjoy playing badminton and running when I can. I have completed a number of 10k and half marathon runs. I enjoy listening to music of all genres and creating electronic music.
Helen Varley – Publicity
I’m married with two girls, we have been living in Totterdown for the last 10 years and have felt much more involved in the local community since we started going to St Michael’s.
I work in the web industry and enjoy doing anything creative and walking my little dog.
Liz Wilmot – Secretary
I enjoy the community feeling that St Michaels’ offers. The boys enjoy the fun and activities that Junior Church provides.
Ed. Burgess – Buildings, Worship Group, Teen Church
“I live in Windmill Hill with my family. We have been worshipping at St Michael’s for some years now. I read Theology at university a long time ago before working in community mental health for a while and then turning to a career in law. I joined the PCC because I wanted to take a more active role in the life of our church and its ministry.”
Donella Longhurst – Brownies, Fair Co-ordinator, Safeguarding
I have lived in the are for over 30 years and live with my daughter, Marie, by Victoria Park. I lead two local Brownie units, including the one at St Michael and All Angels as well as a local Guide unit. I enjoy being part of the team of leaders.
I work in Finance and have been there for over 30 years.
Harriet – Charity Fundraising
Kate – Safeguarding (Shared with Donella) Junior Church and Creche
Anne-Marie – Church Weekend Away, Outings
I live in Totterdown and have been coming to St Michaels for a few years with my two boys, aged 7 & 9. There are loads of great things about St Michaels and I enjoy being involved with a local church as it makes me feel like I’m living in a small village rather than some impersonal city. There’s loads of nice people at church and the kids have a great time at the Sunday School.
I work for two Bristol charities and take a keen interest in current affairs. I enjoy meeting friends for a drink in the growing range of local pubs and going for walks in the beautiful countryside just to the south of Bristol.
Andrew Josham – Prayer Co-Ordinator, Deanery Synod Rep. LLM
Hi, I am Andrew. I live with my wife Sue and daughter Charlotte. I became a licensed Lay Minister in 1995. I enjoy preaching, reading and relaxing. I like the family friendly atmosphere at St Michael’s. I also enjoy preaching and leading services at Kingswood Congregational Church. I love to serve in any way I can including washing up hundreds of cups!
I am Payroll Manager at Weston General Hospital which is quite stressful at times but every day is different so it is a good challenge although I don’t particularly like the commuting.
My role in church is to maintain a link between the lay people of the church and God to help them understand scripture as best as I can, to facilitate worship and coordinate the prayers by posting them to the website.
Sally Tooze – LLM
I have been attending St Michael’s for the last 26 years since my daughter was a baby and have been Creche leader, Junior Church Leader and Fellowship Leader in the past – and failed badly in all these roles and so am now a Lay Minister with Andrew and trying to improve.
I am married to John who has an amazing sense of humour and so my days are filled with much laughter. I am a bra fitter for Marks and Spencer which you can say is an uplifting experience! My sermons are full of stories from my life which I use to bore the congregation to death!! But one day I could get better!!
Sarah Edwards – Junior Church
Our family has been coming to St Michael’s for the last 6 years, having been part of a city wide church. We have loved belonging to a church which is genuinely trying to serve our local community. I help run Junior Church where we look to share the Gospel through games, stories and crafts.
I am a Maths teacher at a local secondary school, I love to play sports and enjoy the cups of teas at Mrs Brown’s cafe in the park.
Kathy Rawstron – Server, Pastoral Secretary
I am married to John. I used to work as a nurse for adults with learning disabilities, then for a bank in a Lending Centre. I took early retirement in order to write a novel which is a slow process! I am also a poet, and have read some of my poems out in church.
I am a Server, and also a Street Pastor. My hobbies are reading, knitting, sewing, travel and music – mainly classical and easy listening.
I work well in a supportive capacity and my role on the Committee is that of Secretary.
Lucy Sansom – Musical Director
My name’s Lucy Sansom and I took over the main organ duties at St. Michael’s at Easter 2015. I also continue to play the piano in the worship band and in church generally accompanying people when required. I love my job! The Rev. David Moss has recently given me the title of Musical Director with which I am delighted. I hope I can live up to this grand name as I am a competent pianist (but nothing special), an adequate organist and have a quiet but (mostly) in tune, singing voice.
