Walter Rue

Walter was born in 1894 to parents Walter and Eliza, his father worked as a carter for Bristol Corporation and he had four brothers and one sister all living at 16 Monmouth St, Windmill Hill Bristol. In 1911 age 16 he was working as an assistant butcher. Walter enlisted into the 1st Battalion Somerset Light Infantry and served as Private No. 11058.His battalion moved to France on the 2nd May 1915 and Walter age 20 died of wounds on the 30th May 1915 received during the 2nd Battle of Ypres, Flanders infamous for the Germans first use of poison gas on the Western Front. Walter was awarded the 1915 Star plus the British War and Victory medals and is buried in Bedford House War Cemetery, Belgium.
